UMD has instituted a number of incentives to help students, like the six interviewed here, to get in and out of college fast. UMD has made big changes. Graduation Planner lets students view degree requirements, classes, and a plan online. Credit Banding provides a flat tuition fee for over 13 credits, and UMD offers a Four-Year Graduation guarantee. Be prepared for Commencement on May 17. Graduates and guests are advised to arrive at the DECC early because of traffic congestion surrounding the convention center. Remind those coming from out of town to allow additional time for traffic delays. The arena doors open at 10 am for early arrivals. - Kirby Director to Retire:
Neale Roth, Director of the Kirby Student Center since 1967, will retire this summer. Roth has been behind all of Kirby's major renovations including the recent Multicultural Center. Roth's dedication to meeting the needs of the student body has been the driving force of his career and has led to student programs such as the popular Late Night Kirby.
- World-Wide Dreams Come True: UMD receives students from all around the globe, more than 200 hundred international students from 40 different countries. LeAne and Bruce Rutherford value the richness international students bring to UMD and recently established a scholarship fund. By supporting students from other countries, they provide a resource for all UMD students. Most of all, they help international students achieve. - UMD Benefits from Bonding Bill: UMD is celebrating! Minnesota passed a bonding bill on April 7 that includes a UMD civil engineering building and a hockey rink for UMD use at the DECC. The bill provides $10 million for the civil engineering building, which will house the new civil engineering program. The program starts this fall and the building is due to open in fall 2010. - Emergency Preparedness Website: UMD has launched a new revamped and expanded Emergency Preparedness Website complete with information about what to do during health, weather and safety emergencies. - Going Green: UMD has initiated sustainability efforts campus-wide with projects and program. - Construction Updates: Information on campus detours and building access. |
