Holds
If you have a hold on your record, you may not register or, in many cases, obtain transcripts until that hold is cleared with the office that placed the hold. A hold may be imposed for financial indebtedness to the University, e.g., for unpaid tuition or library fines, or for disciplinary or scholastic reasons. A hold is also one means the university has to enforce certain critical processes, such as academic advisement or credit checks.You will usually be notified of an existing or impending hold by the department or office authorizing the hold. Notice of any hold, including the name of the department or office where it may be cleared, is available online.
When you clear a hold, the unit imposing the hold will electronically remove the hold from your record. Units may, on occasion, issue temporary hold releases. In this case, the hold is not removed from your record but simply made inactive for a designated period of time.When viewing your holds online, check the hold "effective date." Some holds, such as the CP hold, are on your record to serve as a requirement reminder but are future-dated so as not to impact your ability to register.
