Lake Effect

Lake Effect is a group comprised of 16 members: four basses, four tenors, four altos, and four sopranos. The group performs at UMD's own Weber Hall, as a part of UMD's late night lounge programs, and several schools in Minnesota.

With an outstanding rhythm section and dedicated singers, this group is known as the more advanced of UMD's two Vocal Jazz Ensembles. All members have prior singing experience and most are music majors at the University. Lake Effect sings a wide variety of music from ballads to jazz standards and swing. The group practices three nights a week and the occasional weekend.

Lake Effect just recently finished a tour that included high schools in the Twin Cities area and outer suburbs. The group started at St. Paul's Como Park High School, continued on to Park Center High, and wrapped things up at Forest Lake High. The tour is part of an outreach program, designed to recruit upcoming college freshmen.

Lake Effect will perform its final concert of the year this April in Weber Hall.
