2001 to present: Instructor and Assistant Professor, Department of Education, University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), Duluth, Minnesota
Collaborated with colleagues to develop professional standards-aligned and technology-rich courses. Fostered candidate critical reflection in pedagogy, education psychology, and education technology courses. Teamed with Secondary Teacher Education Program to empower licensure candidates through Understanding By Design curriculum construction. Advised undergraduate and graduate students toward realizing their professional and personal goals through intercultural field experiences and social justice oriented research projects. Served as advisor and committee member on master of education candidates' research projects. Collaborated with colleges of teacher preparation in order to research transformative teacher education experiences. Empowered my own teaching through regular participation in Instructional Development Service and Information Technology Systems and Services workshops, seminars, and programs.
Taught the following University of Minnesota Duluth Learner Sensitive Courses:
Supported kindergarten through sixth grade students, families, faculty, and partner schools with instructional resources to foster multiple intelligences learning. Collaborated to initiate Search Institute research-based program innovation between partner schools. Coordinated relationships with students, families, faculty, and public school district experts to empower students through effective individualized education plans. Developed special education and education technology partnerships.
1997 to 1999: Middle School English and Spanish Teacher, St. Charles Borromeo Middle School, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Designed, delivered, and assessed multilingual fifth through eighth grade middle school curriculum. Supported students through effective implementation of individualized education plans. Developed technology-rich classrooms through community partner grant sources. Advised co-curriculars including quiz bowl, ultimate frisbee, book club, soccer, yearbook, and student newspaper.
1996-1997: High School Literature Teacher, Yucca Valley High School, Yucca Valley, California
Structured effective cooperative learning and technology-based learning for at-risk ninth through twelfth grade students. Collaborated with academic departments to construct thematic, integrated curriculum in coordination with state academic standards. COLLABORATION WITH P-12 SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS
Collaborating with ISD 709: Duluth Public School District Superintendent and Principals in long range curriculum and strategic plan development.
Serving as assistant chairperson to Holy Rosary School, Duluth, Minnesota to provide support and consultation for a variety of strategic planning and safe schools initiatives ranging from use of appropriate technology to increase school security to reducing use of toxins and increasing presence of ecologically safe decision making on campus.
Collaborating with educators and administrators at Morgan Park Middle School, Marshall School, St. James Elementary, Hermantown Middle School, University of Minnesota Extension Service for administrative technology and middle school service learning opportunities.
Coaching soccer for Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association.
