Careers in Chemistry and Biochemistry

Chemical Careers in Brief. This series, offered through the Amercian Chemical Society and produced by a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation as part of the Sloan Career Cornerstone Project, presents students and teachers with a view of 30 career areas within the chemical sciences. Each two- or four-page brief contains interviews with chemists working in various positions in the respective career area and includes information on educational requirements, employment outlook, salaries, and the skills needed to pursue a career goal in the career area.

Careers and Jobs This is a chemical careers website maintained by the American Chemical Society (ACS). The ACS is rated #1 by recruiters as their main source of qualified chemistry professionals worldwide.ACS offers a variety of formats for recruiters and chemical scientists who want to expand their career options and gain career management skills.

Science Careers. Resources and advice on careers in the sciences from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Clinical Chemistry. Information about careers in clinical chemistry from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC).


Graduate School

Application. Plan to get your applications in to the graduate programs of your choice by December prior to the fall semester you plan to enter.

Graduate Record Exam. Most graduate programs require the GRE general test or subject test, or both.

Pre-Medicine

Application. Plan to get your applications in to the graduate programs of your choice by December prior to the fall semester you plan to enter.

MCAT. Plan to take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) during the spring of your junior year or the following summer.

Stowers Institute for Medical Research, Kansas City, Missouri. http://www.stowers-institute.org/. Offering an 8-week summer research program for 2005, for undergraduate science majors with 60 credits and 3.5 GPA. Click on Training Programs at the top of their home page.
