OFFICES AND CLASSROOMS
Offices
There are three offices for the Study in England program located in Alan Geale
Hall. One is shared by the Director, Housing Director, and work study student.
One is shared by the program faculty. The third serves as a mailroom, tearoom,
and general (cramped) gathering space for students.(See
photos)
In addition, there is a supplemental office/meeting room in the Terrapin,
which is the temporary classroom unit behind Alan Geale. This room has a desk
and telephone. There is an Ethernet connection for use with a laptop. For security
reasons, we do not put any items of value in the Terrapin room.
Computers and peripherals
THIS IS A MOVING TARGET!
In Spring 2003 there were 4 Pentium computers located in the Alan Geale offices
(one located in the faculty office.) Three are connected to the UB system
through a Novell server. (We hope that soon we will be permitted another
two ethernet connections.) In the student mailroom, there is a Windows 95
computer and an old printer, not on the network. Students use this for printing
their papers during crunch times.
There is a Micron PC laptop with DVD which can be used in the Terrapin classroom.
Software includes: Windows 95-98-00-XP, Word, PowerPoint, Corel Suite (including
Word Perfect, Excel), QuattroPro, Internet Explorer and Netscape, Quicken,
Dreamweaver.
The Director's office has a black and white laser printer; the faculty office
has a color ink-jet printer.
There is a scanner and a digital camera.
On campus there is a good supply of computers which students can use. There
is also a computer lab on campus which can be booked; it has a computer set
up with projector and it has about 22 stations.
Classrooms
The program has one classroom (the Terrapin) assigned for its exclusive use.
(See photo.) It has 2 Ethernet connections. In addition, we utilize classrooms
across the campus. Some have network jacks.
Classroom equipment for use in the Terrapin:
- INFOCUS projector
- VCR, works on both British and American standards
- two slide projectors, one Kodak; and a one with an awkward system
- PC laptop with DVD capability.
The University has an AV service through which equipment which can be booked
for the UB classrooms.
