LIVING IN ENGLAND
Income Tax Returns for 2005
If you have to file a tax return for 2003, you can
do so from England. You can arrange for forms to be
sent over to you. (Federal forms are also available
at the American Embassy in London and on the Worldwide
Web at http://www.irs.gov)
If you wish, by virtue of being abroad on April 15,
you have an automatic extension until June 15. Simply
attach a letter to your return stating that you were
out of the country on April 15. If you need a further
extension, request Federal Tax Form 4868; this will
give you an extension until August 15 if you have
applied for the extension prior to April 15.
Minnesota State tax laws work with the same dates
as the Federal government. When you send in your Minnesota
State Tax forms, send a copy of the Federal 4868 form
also if you are requesting the August 15 extension.
Note that if you take an extension, you are still
responsible for interest on any taxes owed after April
15. Forms and further information are available at
http://www.taxes.state.mn.us/
For those of you outside Minnesota, please contact
you state IRS office for information regarding the
laws in your state.
