Internationa ID card sample International Student Identification Card

The programme will provide each student with an internationally recognized student identification card. An application form will be included in the pre-departure orientation packet and the completed PDF should be returned to the International Education Office.

This ID card provides discounts and benefits as you travel around the world. With the card, you receive an ID Discount Guide which lists world-wide discounts available to students. The ID card provides you with automatic accident/sickness insurance anywhere you travel outside the U.S. Another benefit is access to a 24-hour travel assistance hotline staffed by multilingual representatives ready to help travelers with medical, financial, or legal emergencies. Among the services offered by the travel centers are:

  • Assistance in locating medical facilities
  • Communicating with family members and/or personal physicians back home in event of an emergency
  • Help in arranging medical payments so that the patient is not required to pay cash prior to obtaining treatment
  • Finding an English-speaking attorney
  • Help in replacing lost travelers check or passports
  • Arranging emergency travel home.

The card is valid for 15 months, from September 1 to December 31 of the following year.

We suggest that you make copies of all your cards (International Student ID, driver's license, passport, credit cards). Keep them in a safe place and leave a copy with your parents. This will provide you with valuable information in case a card is lost or stolen.

International Youth Hostel Card

The International Youth Hostel Association provides inexpensive sleeping accommodations throughout the world. Past Study in England participants have made extensive use of these hostels. While you can purchase an IYHA card in the U.S., the cost is cheaper in England. We suggest that you wait to buy it until you arrive in Birmingham. Current price is £13.00.
