Course Description: This course is the final course in the Educational Computing & Technology Certificate. The course addresses NCATE &
International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)
standards and provides high-quality computer technology education for students pursuing educational excellence. Pre-requisites for this course are Educ 5412 and Educ 5413 (or consent of the instructor). Key topics include: hypermedia, multimedia software; uses of multimedia products as educational resources; design and creation of advanced media products utilizing a variety of applications and peripherals; integration of digital images and video into presentations; web site evaluation, design, and publishing, troubleshooting techniques for multimedia computer systems and related peripheral devices.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of all the course requirements, students will be able to: |
1. Implement basic troubleshooting techniques for multimedia computer systems with related peripheral devices and multimedia software.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the uses of multimedia products as educational resources.
3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of equity, ethics, legal, and human issues concerning use of multimedia, computers and technology.
4. Design and create advanced media products utilizing a variety of applications and peripherals.
5. Identify, select, and integrate video and digital images in varying formats for use in presentations, publications and/or other products.
6. Design and publish on-line documents that present information and include links to critical resources. |

Grading: Grading for each of the assignments for this class is done on an A-F basis. Students must receive a passing (C- or better) grade on ALL assignments in order to pass this course. Instructional Strategies, Class Format & Diversity
Your learning will include: small and large group discussion and activities, lecture, cooperative learning, videos, homework assignments, simulations, role play, outside reading, personal reflection and a community service learning project. Class sessions will revolve around the themes of hypermedia and uses of multimedia products as educational resources. Each class
attention will be given to relating new information from readings, videos, and speakers to personal past experience and present experience.
Class Policies and Expectations
- The final project is due on the last day of this semester. Failure of zip disks, of printers to print, or any other technological problems will not be accepted as excuses for late work.
- There will be NO INCOMPLETE in this class unless you are in unusual or extenuating circumstances (such as illness with a doctor's note, health problem, family, & university business). Unless the circumstances are quite extraordinary, you must receive advance permission from the instructor. Assignments should follow all directions and required specifications precisely.
- Find software for this class from the Resources site. When you want to work at home, you may need some of the software.
- Unless otherwise stated, turn all of your assignments electronically. From the moment when you start this course, there is no more printing-out. And you can enjoy using technology.
- Email is the best way to reach me outside of class time and office hours. I make every attempt to check it often M-F between 9 to midnight, and will answer you as soon as I possibly can. Unless otherwise stated, I don't accept assignments attached to an email because I may inadvertently lose your work.
- Prepare yourself thoroughly for class sessions by doing the necessary outside work and readings. All readings and assignments will be posted on the course web site. It is your responsibility to check the site each section for updates and to link to readings and assignments. You should expect to be doing a minimum of four hours of lab work and readings outside of class for each section in order to be able to accomplish the quality and level of work required for the course.
- My contract calls for me to spend my time not only in teaching activities (giving lectures, preparing for lectures, working with students, advising students, reading to keep current, grading assignments and exams, etc.) but also in conducting academic research and committee meetings. Please understand if I am not available for you every minute during the week. I must meet all of my teaching responsibilities as well as the obligations to my other constituents. Please find me during my office hours or schedule with me by email.
- Participate fully in class activities and discussions.
- Work cooperatively & effectively with others in class & on group assignments.
