Special interests include learning styles, multisensory learning and health behavioral change in community public health; alcohol prevention & social norming programs; primary public health and environmental health prevention.

 

Dissertation Topic: An impact of multisensory health education on the readiness to reduce high-risk drinking behavior among students at a midwestern university.

Program Director, Structured Learning Assistance ( SLA ) Program, University College , Ferris State University , MI ; 1997- 2003. Administer $300,000 annual budget, along with writing and managing grant funds; hire, train, and supervise staff of 35 part-time para-professionals; provide academic support services to 3,500 students annually through a unique academic program. Provide on-going training to faculty and facilitators on utilizing improved teaching methods to instruct students; develop materials on learning inventories, learning strategies and study skills.

Successfully wrote and procured a ½ million dollar grant with the U.S. Department of Education (FIPSE grant) to replicate and disseminate a successful academic support model. Currently serve as the Project Director of this FIPSE grant to four partner universities across the country. 2001- present.

 

Program Director- Environmental Management Studies Center, Ferris State University ; coordinated scheduling and projects; managed faculty and students in ten-week intensive senior level capstone program. 1995-1997.

 

Team Leader for a 30-member multi-disciplinary team, coordinating monthly activities and community service projects for the Washtenaw County Health Department, Ann Arbor , MI ; served on Executive Council (Health Dept.) developing decision-making policies for the County. (1 yr.)
