              Unified Early Childhood Studies Concentration

 

The M.Ed. program is aligned with core propositions of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) and is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to seek national certification.

The foundation of the NBPTS core propositions provides a basis for professional developement needs of practicing educators and other persons in training roles within the human service professions.

The Unified Early Childhood Studies Conentration is designed with pedigogical content that addresses current practice in cognitive science, unified educational methods, leadership and advocacy. The Unified M.Ed. prepares experienced early childhood professional with leadership skills in developing and implementing inclusive programs for infants/toddlers, pre-schoolers, and primary aged children with and without developmental delays.

The Unified Early Childhood Studies Program is designed to facilitate the development of leaders in the field of early childhood and early childhood special education.  Strong leadership will ensure positive outcomes for young children in early childhood settings. 

The goals of the program are:

  1. To support teachers in facilitating the development of  social,emotional and cognitive skills in young children.
  2. To support teachers and administrators in the development of curriculum and environments that promote child-centered learning.
  3. To guide educational practice to support the development of social and emotional competence.
  4. To support teaching practices that promote the development of  citizenship in young children.
  5. To ensure that all children are given equal opportunity to learn, play and develop regardless of physical or cognitive limitations.
  6.
