ADOPT A MINERAL

I would like each of you to adopt a mineral this semester. The mineral may or maynot be on your mineral list. You will research everything about it and write a report on it. You will need to present this as a term paper, including the following:

Uses

Mining Data and/or Potential

Summary

List of References

List of References (At least five non web-based references.) Refer to the the diagrams and tables that you have produced during your research. Things to think about.

A drawing of the structure

A diffractogram of the mineral

Optics

What is the type locality

What is it used for?

Is this mineral mined? If so, how much each year?

Who supplies most of the mineral?

A chart showing world consumption?

 

A draft of this report is due Nov. 1 and the final report will be due December 5.

It is worth 10 points.
