This class is designed for our geological science majors and minors. This course will introduce you to the language of Mineralogy. There will be a lot of new information. If you find that you are getting swamped in the course--let one of us know. Please use your mineralogy text as a reference book, especially in lab. When working with the microscope, always bring "Minerals in Thin Section". Do not sell these texts as they are used in Geol 2312 as well. The basis for grading in this course will be on lab exercises, some homework, field trip report (really notes), lecture/ lab quizzes and exams. There is a field trip planned for the weekend of Oct. 6 and 7. During this trip, we will be looking at igneous and sedimentary rocks, textures, and structures in the field--and getting to know oneanother. We will also learn to use a Brunten compass and to map an outcrop. A field trip notebook is required. The field trip notes are due Monday Oct. 8.
