Testing Accommodations and Students with Disabilities
Disability Services & Resources offers test accommodations
to students with documented disabilities to provide
equity for them.
Proctored testing hours are between 8:00 and 5:00 Monday through Friday. We try to schedule exams on the same day and time as class time. However, when the number of students exceeds our available staff and space, or the regular exam time is outside of our office hours, we schedule exams as closely as possible. If this is a problem, please let the counselor know.
Students who qualify for this accommodation will present a completed, signed, test accommodation form. Students are instructed to take these forms to the professor's office hours to facilitate communication. If you would prefer this to "catching the professor after class", please tell them.
If you have students who request additional time, etc. and whom you think may need disability services, refer them to DS&R. (For additional referral information, please see "Where do I refer this student?")
What Does Disability Services & Resources and the Student Need from Me?
Parts 1 and 2 of the Test Accommodation Form will be completed and signed when you get the form. Part 3 is your section to complete. Please do the following:
Check the accommodated dates and times. If the student has deviated from the regular time, make sure it will fit your needs, too.
In the signature area of Part 2 , you will find the counselor's name and phone number. Questions or concerns may be addressed to the counselor.
Indicate any parameters you have on your exams. If students
are allowed to use a calculator, open book, notes, or any other
aid for the exam it must be checked/written on this form. If nothing is listed,
nothing will be allowed.
Please check the appropriate line indicating how you would
like the exam returned to you.
If you want it delivered, PLEASE
GIVE US THE DEPARTMENT ADDRESS FOR DELIVERY (Because we need a signature, we cannot leave
it in your mailbox).
If you prefer
to pick it up, we will keep it in a locked cabinet until you
come in.
Finally, sign the form and keep the back (pink) copy for
your records.
Send or deliver each exam directly to
Disability Services & Resources, 258 KSC before the time of the
test.
NEVER tell students that they can have unlimited time (or all the time they need) for an exam. The counselor who signed the form has used the student's documentation to determine what is appropriate for that student. "Unlimited time" often keeps students from progressing through the exam and can be impossible for us to proctor.
If a student does not keep an appointment for an exam, the unwritten exam will be returned to you.
Evening Classes
Evening classes present challenges as DS&R as we do not have evening staffing. Generally these exams are administered earlier in the afternoon (for exams at the beginning of the class period) or the next morning (for exams scheduled for the end on the class period). If these times present problems for you, please call the DS&R counselor who signed the form. Your assistance in making your exam available to us at those times is vital.
What is the students responsibility?
The student is responsible for returning the white copy to Disability Services & Resources. The form must be in the office 5 working days before the exam.
It is the student's responsibility to inform Disability Services & Resources of any test date changes within 24 hours of the announcement. Anytest change not reportedto Disability Services & Resources will result in the student either taking
the test in class or rescheduling for another day.
If the student (for personal reasons) need to deviate from the scheduled exam time, it is the responsibility of the student to discuss an alternative time with you and provide us a Change of Exam form with your signature on it.
