  • Why We meet

    The mission of the University of Minnesota Duluth Commission on Disabilities is to promote the University's plan for compliance with all current legislation regarding disabilities including, but not limited to, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Minnesota Human Rights Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Commission on Disabilities serves as an advisory board to the Office of Equal Opportunity, the Chancellor's Office, and the Access Center. Moreover, the Commission on Disabilities strives to:

    1. Ensure that the University is in compliance with statutes, regulations, and legislation in the area of equity for individuals with disabilities.
    2. Serve as an advocate for individuals with disabilities as protected by federal, state, and local law.
    3. Promote respect for individual differences and the right of individuals with disabilites to be treated with civility through education opportunities.

    Whom We Serve

    An individual with a disability is defined as a person who:

    • Has a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more essential life activity
    • Has record of such impairment
    • Is regarded as having such an impairment.

    Who Works with Us

    Access for All is an organization of students with disabilities and other individuals interested in disability rights and issues. Access for All meets weekly during the school year. Representatives of Access for All have seats on the Commission on Disabilities.
