The following list gives examples of information which will be described in the self-study report and in other materials (e.g., Bulletin, Campus Data Book, campus and system plans, descriptions of critical measures) made available to North Central. Existing sources of information will be used where possible. What descriptive information related directly to governance, administration, and planning do you think it is important to include in the self-study report itself?
The following questions focus on evaluation and are the major responsibility of this subcommittee. The goal is to identify strengths and weaknesses (areas of concern) in how the campus functions. The following should be considered about the questions:
1. Is campus mission appropriate? Is it clearly stated? Clearly communicated? Does it provide direction for decisions about campus? Is there a reasonable consensus among various campus constituencies about the mission?
2. Are there appropriate long- and short-range institutional and educational goals and objectives? Do these flow from the campus mission? Is there a reasonable consensus about them? Do they inform decision making?
3. Is the governance system structure clear and well-defined? Does it function well?
4. Do governance processes enable campus to respond quickly and appropriately to changing circumstances?
5. Is the administrative structure (system, campus, collegiate) clear and well-defined? Does it function well?
6. Has the existence of bargaining units:
8. Are all appropriate constituencies involved in planning?
9. Is planning translated into specific goals and objectives? Does planning adequately evaluate mission and purposes?
10. Is institutional research used effectively in planning? Do we have an adequate data base for planning?
11. Are policies and procedures consistently administered?
12. Is there institutional integrity - adherence to laws and code of ethics commonly accepted the in academic community? Do we expect and enforce academic honesty? Do we practice full disclosure? Do we live up to commitments made in public presentations?
