Transportation You will be required to have a valid driver's license. In many states you are unable to use the international driver's license. If you do not have an international driver's license, you are required to have a driver's license from the State of Minnesota. Questions concerning license requirements can be directed to Driver's License Exam Station, 4602 Grand Avenue, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, 218-723-4789. Buses serve UMD students, faculty and staff, who ride “free” using their University ID card (U Card). The “Mall” bus goes directly to a shopping area, called Miller Hill Mall. Bus schedules are available at the Kirby Information Desk. There are several different taxi services in Duluth that may be of use to you occasionally during your stay. Taxis are city regulated and all charge a base rate of $1.80 per mile. You may want to find another student who is willing to share the expense with you if you decide to use this option. Minnesota State Identification Card To get a Minnesota State Identification card, go to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, 4602 Grand Avenue. Bring your passport, INS I-94, I-20, and Social Security card. The cost is $12.50. They are open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. |
