While the lab is extensively utilized by many of the Art & Design faculty and graduate students, the Viz Lab is actually run by School of Fine Arts, Swenson College of Science & Engineering, and Information Technology Systems & Services. During the year (especially during the summer) the lab is available for faculty researchers from a variety of disciplines. The current mission statement of the lab focuses on the integration of design and scientific visualization in order to help scientific data reach and resonate within the broader community.

• The Viz Lab facilitates the exploration of new technologies and techniques, including game and animation experimentation, video production and user-centered kiosks.
