Here are some important next steps…

Complete online at and have the information sent to UMD (Federal School Code: 002388).

Admitted Students can check on their financial aid status, providing they have submitted a complete FAFSA.

Instructions for Account Initiation:

Step One: (if you have not accessed Application Tracker) Go to the Student Internet Account Initiation Page.  Enter your social security number, your student ID number (listed on your confirmation letter), and your birth date. Next, read the password requirements carefully and choose an appropriate password. After all the information is entered, click on "Submit Form". If all of the information is entered correctly, you will see the "Internet Login Successful" screen. Behind this screen, you will find your Internet ID (a.k.a. X.500 Username) and email address.

Write down your Internet ID and remember your password.

If you need assistance initiating your email account, call the UMD ITSS Help Desk (Information Technology System and Services) at 218-726-8847 or email them at

Step Two: Once you have initiated your email account with the University, view the requirements to complete your financial aid application verification:

  • Go to
  • Click on Check Your Financial Aid Status
  • Log in with your UMD-assigned Internet ID (X.500 Username)
  • Enter password

NOTE: You will not be able to check your financial aid status until late July.

Admitted Student Day will give you additional perspective into what it's like to be a Bulldog. These take place during January, February, and March. We start sending details and sign-up information in December.

You can apply for housing beginning February 1. We start sending information about on-campus housing in mid-January. Make sure you complete your housing application by May 1. We can't guarantee space after this date.

When you join the Official Class of 2021 Facebook page, you'll be able to connect with incoming students and get assistance from student leaders on campus. Only students who've been admitted to UMD for Fall 2017 will be accepted to the class of 2021 page. (if your Facebook names doesn't match our records you will not be eligible to enter.) Often duplicated the official Facebook page is less on spam and more on the meat & potatoes you care about.

Submit official transcripts for any college courses and/or AP/IB examinations you've taken. This way we can give you credit for work you've done through PSEO, CIS, AP, or IB.

Send your final high school transcript, with the date of graduation, to the Office of Admissions by July 1st.

To help new freshmen get ready for their first semester in Duluth, UMD requires the completion of three online educational modules. The modules cover a number of important topics, and they help UMD meet a Minnesota state law for incoming college students. Be sure to watch for an email with instructions in late July!

Attend Bulldog Welcome Week. Required for all freshmen, this is your week to explore, discover and get connected before classes begin. Kick-off begins with move-in day on August 22. Welcome Week events start August 23 and end August 26.
