Be Bulldogish! Get Out and
Active students are happier students.
There are over 260 student organizations including professional, political and social action, religious, Greek, recreational, and special interest groups at UMD. And the UMD Outdoor Program offers extensive outdoor programming as well as educational programming. Click way your way around the Kirby web page, to view all of UMD's student organizations and programming.
Housing is assigned on a priority basis. Students who return housing contracts by May 1st will have a housing space reserved and assigned to them in university-sponsored housing based on the date of application for admission to UMD. First-year students are not required to live on campus, but over 90% of them do!
Students who live on campus find it a lot easier to discover and explore campus – and have an easier time finding and getting to their classes. Plus, the first year is the perfect time to get involved in campus organizations, meet new people and establish friendships that will outlast your years at UMD.
First-year students are permitted to bring a car to campus. However, Duluth has an extensive transit system, so you may not find you need a car. All UMD students ride the bus for FREE with their U-card.
And, if you need to get home for the holidays or even just the weekend, Duluth has a bus terminal with easy and inexpensive routes to the Minneapolis / St. Paul area and an airport with daily service to Minneapolis, Chicago, and Detroit.
