We Invite You to Visit the UMD Campus

The Office of Admissions believes that campus visits are an essential part of any college search, and so we invite you to come explore UMD. We know you will be impressed with our campus, the friendly UMD community, and our beautiful city by the lake. So don't just read about it -- visit UMD and experience the Lake Effect for yourself!

Capacity for tours and visit programs is limited and may fill up early during peak visiting times. To avoid disappointment, be sure to schedule your campus visit with us as soon as possible.

Campus Visit Programs

Campus visit programs give you the opportunity to explore UMD in the company of other prospective students and families. Each program includes an informational session, a campus tour, and a chance to meet with representatives from each from our five collegiate units. Visit programs last approximately 2.5 - 3 hours.

Campus Tours

Student volunteers conduct campus tours each weekday and during Campus Visit program events. During the school year, tours are available weekdays (M-F) at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., except during Winter and Spring breaks which will be at 12:00 noon. During the summer, tours are offered at 12:00 noon on weekdays (M-F). Tours last approximately 1.5 hours.

Self-Guided Tours

If you are not able to visit us during our normal tour times or a campus visit program, you are welcome to take a self-guided tour. During most weekends other than semester breaks or university holidays, many of our campus buildings are open for you to walk around and explore. Self-guided tour booklets are located at the Solon Campus Center information desk and the Kirby Student Center information desk. Parking

If you are visiting during the academic school year, a permit will be mailed to you ahead of time for you to Park in Lot a at the intersection of University Drive & College Street, or lot W on Junction Avenue. If you do not receive a parking permit prior to your visit, be sure to report to the Offfice of Admissions (25 Solon Campus Center BEFORE parking.

During the summer months, visitors are encouraged to park in Lot B or Lot E.

Please do not park in metred parking spots.

Parking permits are provided only to those who have an arranged campus visit through the Office of Admissions. Others must contact the department or individual they are visiting for parking arragements.

We have special rates available through Canal Park Lodge by calling (218) 279-6000. Be sure to mention you are visiting the campus through the UMD Admissions Office.

Also, UMD visitors can take advantage of a special online rate with the Sheraton Duluth.

From I-35:

Follow I-35 North to 21st Avenue East exit (Exit #258). Follow 21st Ave East to Woodland Ave (top of the hill). Turn right onto Woodland Ave. Continue on Woodland to College Street. Turn left on College St. UMD is on your right. Turn right onto University Drive,

From Range Cities:

Follow Highway 53 (Miller Trunk Highway) to Arrowhead Road (stop light just past Menards). Turn left onto Arrowhead Road. Continue on Arrowhead Road to Kenwood Avenue. Turn right onto Kenwood Avenue. Travel on Kenwood to College Street. Turn left onto College Street to University Drive. Turn left onto University Drive (look for the "UMD" sign).

From Wisconsin:

Follow Highway 53 to Duluth to Interstate 35 north. Follow I-35 to the 21st Avenue East exit (Exit #258). Follow 21st Avenue East to Woodland Ave. (top of the hill). Turn right onto Woodland Ave. Continue on Woodland Ave. past the stoplight at 8th Street/Kent Road. Just past this intersection, turn left onto College Street. UMD is on your right. Turn right onto University Drive.
