Credit for Writ 1120 is granted for a score of 6 or 7 on the International Baccalaureate examination.
Students scoring a 32 or above on the ACT English score are exempt from Writ 1120.
UMD Honors students are exempt from Writ 1120 when those students have taken Writ 1015 and/or Writ 1017.
The online Transfer Manual (http://www.d.umn.edu/registrar/transfer_Sem/index.htm) can be used to determine whether a student has earned equivalent credit at another institution. Note: Many institutions offer a two term composition sequence during the freshman year. Students typically need to complete the entire sequence to earn equivalent credit for Writ 1120. The Department of Writing Studies does NOT offer any kind of credit by exam or "test out."
