Arnold Air Society
  • A national honorary service organization associated with AFROTC 
  • Designed to develop professional abilities and leadership skills 
  • Participate in social and community service activities 
Non-Military Social Events 
  • Parties, dances, dinners, and holiday parties 
  • A time when cadets may interact socially in a non-military environment 
Dining Out 
  • A formal military dinner (required attendance) and dance 
Base Visits 
  • Visit Air Force Bases across the United States to learn about how an active duty base operates 
  • Tours of local sights
  • Two years ago we visited Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada 
  • Last year we visited Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio 
The UMD Intramurals 
  • We play against other teams at UMD in sports such as: Football, Broomball, Volleyball, etc... 
Civil Air Patrol (CAP) 
  • Membership is free and it provides cadets an opportunity to log flying hours in a CAP plane at the local chapter of CAP 
Volunteer Opportunities 
  • Adopt-a-family: During Christmas we adopt a family in need. AFROTC donates money, food, and gifts to ensure one more Northern Minnesota family in need has a Merry Christmas. 
  • The Food Shelf: AFROTC also donates time to help fill, sort, and give out food to Duluth's needy. 
  • The Blood Drive: Twice a year we host a blood drive for the local blood bank. 
  • Tutoring: We offer our knowledge to young students through tutoring at a local elementary school. 
  • Soup Kitchen: AFROTC cadets regularly donate time to a local soup kitchen regularly.
  • Senior Citizens Home:  Participate in activities with elderly residents at a local retirement home.
  • Valentines for Kids:  Make and deliver valentines for children who are sick in the local hospitals.  Visit with them and play games.
  • POW/MIA Vigil:  AFROTC cadets stand watch for a 24-hour remembrance vigil at the local Vietnam Memorial.  Cadets usually do a 15 minute shift.
  • Highway Clean-up:  Cadets are assigned a 2-mile stretch on U.S. Highway 2.  Twice a year a group of cadets go and pick-up the trash on the side of the highway.
