About the UMDalumni Association

The UMDalumni Association serves as liaison between UMD and its more than 50,000 graduates. The goal of the UMDalumni Association is to be a valuable and meaningful resource for UMD graduates and the University. It encourages alumni to stay connected to each other and the University.

The Association has an advisory Board of Directors which meets quarterly; twice in Duluth and two times in the Twin Cities. The Board is guided by a 3-year strategic plan. The Board has established 6 standing committees: nominating; membership and benefits; communications; senior transition and young alumni; events; and scholarship. An award and recognition subcommittee and a legislative subcommittee have recently been formed.

UMD alumni are encouraged to participate on the Board of Directors or as committee members. Board member terms are three years. To be considered for a board position, please complete the brief application form. Committee members do not need to be on the UMDalumni Board. Please let us know your interest, as well as suggestions for others who might be interested in becoming involved.

The UMDalumni Association is an integral part of University Relations at UMD which is under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Bill Wade. The alumni office is staffed by Patty DeLano, Alumni Director, and Lisa Pratt, Alumni Associate, and is located in the Darland Administration Building at 1049 University Drive. The office serves as a liaison between the University and the UMDalumni Board of Directors and UMD alumni. We welcome your calls, emails and especially your visit. We want to hear from you: your suggestions and ideas, your news as well as your interest in becoming involved with the UMDalumni Association.

All UMD alumni have access to UMDalumni Association benefits and privileges. All alumni receive the magazine, The Bridge, and are e-mailed the UMDview. They have access to UMD education and recreational facilities, are invited to social and educational activities, and are represented on several campus committees. How Can I Make a Contribution to the UMDalumni Association?

Unlike many alumni associations, the UMDalumni Association does not have a dues paying requirement. Many alumni then ask, how can I make a contribution to the UMDalumni Association? The Board of Directors suggests a donation to the UMDalumni Association Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 2007 to benefit children and grandchildren of UMD alumni. It is the goal of the Association to have the scholarship fully endowed by January 1, 2008 and to present the first scholarship in the spring of 2008. To learn more about the scholarship or to make a gift online go to UMDalumni Association Scholarship. We welcome you call us at 866-726-7164 or 218-726-8829.
