People and Events at the Royal D. Alworth, Jr. Institute for International Relations: A Photographic Record.
Juan Carlos Arjona Estevez (from Mexico), unexpectedly on the ice just north of Duluth, with Alworth Director William Henderson on the afternoon of February 4th 2009. Juan Carlos gave a presentation later that evening together with his Humphrey Fellow colleagues, Elizabeth da Cunha Sussekind (from Brazil) and Maria del Rocio Bermeo Sevella (from Ecuador). The Humphrey Fellows developed a topic on "Human Rights Issues in Latin America" using examples from their own countries but within an overall framework of Energy and Environmental Issues and the rights of indigenous peoples to be consulted in developmental projects that challenge their ways of living and of conecting to the earth. All three have a background in the law and on Thursday morning they made a visit to the St. Louis County Attorney's Office for a morning reception.
The writer Alexander Fuller visited the Alworth Institute on 18 and 19 of November 2008 and talked about her biographical work on Zimbabwe. During the visit Alexandra meet with the Alworth International Reading Group and spent time (illustrated above) with journalist students. Her very well-received public lecture on the evening of the 19 November was attended by nearly two hundred people. Her topic for the International Lecture Series meeting was "Race, Responsibility, and Raucous Behaviour - A meditation on Zimbabwe, writing and family". This lively lecture gave rise to many interesting questions.

The Director, William Henderson with Professor Elzbieta Stadtmuller, first International Visiting Fellow at the Alworth Institute. Front row Elzbieta Stadmuller, Michelle Rowley, David Beard). Dr. Stadmuller is Professor of International Relations at the University of Wroclaw in Poland. The International Visiting Fellow was at the Insitute for the month of April 2008 during which time she gave three well-received public lectures and made numerous class visits. Dr. Stadmuller's theme for the visit was Poland and Eastern Europe during a time of transition.
