Bay Front Park in Duluth, Minnesota.
Community Outreach

During the summer, art faculty Joellyn Rock and Alison Aune presented a community art project for children at Bay Front Park in Duluth, Minnesota. In this project, children worked together to create a communal magic carpet inspired by Turkish designs and patterns.

At UMD's summer Digital Art Camp, youth ages 10 -14 created stories, animations, and short digital movies on the theme of magical carpets.

In January, Alison Aune presented a three part program with art education major Natalie Patrick and Education Director Carol Turner to the children of the Unitarian Congregation as part of the Religious Education for the Arts program. Children learned about Islamic art and beliefs and created group painted carpets, mosaics, Arabic calligraphy, and tiles.
