YES Clinic

The University of Minnesota Duluth(UMD) and the NCAA's
Youth Education through Sports (YES) program will
hold a free ice hockey clinic for boys and girls,
ages 10-18, on Saturday, March 22, in conjunction
with the 2003 NCAA Women's Frozen Four.
The clinic, which will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
will be held at the Sports and Health Center on the
UMD campus. Top college coaches and student-athletes
are scheduled to appear at the YES Clinic including
Jeff Vizenor of Minnesota State-Mankato, Tom Babson
of Boston College, Sue Kempt of Ohio State and Shantel
Rivard of North Dakota. Since its inception in 1985,
the NCAA's Youth Education through Sports (YES) program
has reached an unprecedented level of popularity.
Each year, YES clinics, held at selected NCAA championships
serve nearly 10,000 youth ages 10 to 18 who engage
in fun and challenging sports-skill, life skill and
conditioning sessions conducted by top collegiate
coaches and student-athletes.
The NCAA also recognizes the importance of reaching
parents and youth coaches. During each YES clinic
parents and coaches have opportunity to discuss with
clinic staff issues regarding youth sports such as
coaching, nutrition, sportsmanship and injury prevention.
Additional topics relative to recruiting and admission
requirements for collegiate student-athletes are also
discussed.
YES is another way that coaches and student-athletes
share the NCAA's commitment to challenging young people
to strive for higher levels of achievement in both
athletics and academics.
