The UMD Academic Catalog contains information about academic programs, degree requirements, course descriptions, and policies. The catalog is an academic planning tool and it is the responsibility of every student to be familiar with the information in the catalog.

Which Catalog Applies to Me?

The information contained in this catalog is effective for students who enrolled at University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) for the first time during the 2023 - 2024 academic year.

Current students: Students follow the catalog requirements of the year they entered UMD. Upon the advice of their collegiate advising office students may follow a more recent catalog, but never an earlier catalog. The catalog followed for a student's major may be different than for their liberal education requirements.

Former students: Student who re-enters UMD after an absence of two or more semesters, excluding summer session, must meet the requirements of the current catalog unless the dean of the college in which they enroll approves use of the requirements from an earlier catalog up to three years prior to the term of re-entry.

Transfer students: Transfer students admitted to University of Minnesota Duluth may elect to meet the requirements of the catalog in effect when they first enrolled at a two or four year institution up to three years prior to their first semester at UMD. Request for use of a prior catalog are approved by the dean of the college in which the student is enrolled.
