Study Abroad

International Education Office

UMD provides many opportunities for students to study abroad.  Over 400 students take advantage of these opportunities each academic year.  UMD believes that international learning experiences are integral to a UMD education, providing students with the opportunity to gain skills for living in a global society and to interact with diverse communities around the world. The IEO collaborates with UMD faculty, students and staff to offer quality programs that prepare UMD students for their roles and responsibilities as world citizens.

UMD currently offers 11 sponsored programs, approximately 20 short-term programs, and partner program opportunities around the world.  A highlight of these programs is the Study in England Programme, a full academic year of interdisciplinary studies in Great Britain.  Each year, 35 undergraduates and five UMD faculty travel to study at the University of Worcester for an academically challenging and personally rewarding experience.

UMD sponsored programs include several exchange programs.  Exchange programs are a cost-effective program option.  A full range of courses taught in English is available to participating students.  UMD’s partner program opportunities include study abroad programs offered by the University of Minnesota’s coordinate campuses and partner program organizations.

Most financial aid can be used for study abroad.  UMD students may also apply for scholarships which have been specifically designated for study abroad. By studying courses that apply to their major or minor, students are able to progress in a timely fashion towards graduate.
