Course Welcome from Instructor:

INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the individualized instruction online version of History and Systems of Psychology. This course is self-paced to the extent that there are no required class sessions or lectures but it does contain completion dates for assignments and exams. The textbook will be your main source of information. It was chosen for its clear objectives, balanced content which includes famous figures in psychology as well as lesser known researchers, and emphasis on presenting discoveries within the milieu of the times when they occurred.

The History and Systems of Psychology is a valuable course. It can serve as a base for understanding information presented in other classes. You will meet researchers who were instrumental in the conception of experimental psychology, developmental psychology, statistics, cognitive psychology, learning and behavior, theories of personality, child and adolescent psychology, industrial psychology, biology, and more.

This course is designed to make earning your grade as clear as possible with reasonable objectives and expectations for a 3000 level course. As you will see, practical applications of concepts you will learn are included in the design.

This Psychology course conforms to the 15 week Psychology Fall schedule. Students must complete all requirements by December 14, 2007. No exceptions.

Once you access your course, please read your syllabus. It will give you an overview of the course, its completion dates, and the requirements. Please read the syllabus carefully and plan accordingly. Your instructor or teaching assistant will be sending you a follow-up email early in the semester.

We hope this will be a useful and informative course for you. If you have any questions about the course, please contact your instructor by email at ckivi@d.umn.edu.
