Course Welcome from Instructor:

Thank you for registering for Summer 2007, University of Minnesota Duluth course, Child and Adolescent Psychology (PSY 3371, section 200). This course is offered through Continuing Education (CE) as an Individualized Instruction (INI) course, and is web-based.

This course is self-paced to the extent that there are no required class sessions or lectures but it does contain completion dates for assignments and exams. The textbook will be your main source of information. It was chosen for its clear presentation of materials, the available study guide, and a web site with more study information.

Child and Adolescent Psychology is an important topic. Do not underestimate the value you will receive from giving this course your time. It is always a dilemma to be a student who needs a "grade" and "credit" from a course as a conflicting issue to having the time to learn as much as possible from the course. I have attempted to make earning your grade as clear as possible with reasonable objectives and expectations for a 3000 level course. However, please feel free to go beyond the required material for your own benefit. As you read through the text and web sites, keep thinking about your own childhood, children you know, and your present or future children. What can you learn and understand about child and adolescent psychology to help you can make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of those that follow?

The course information will be available on the psychology department main web site at the following URL: http://www.d.umn.edu/psy/online_courses. Your course will be posted and accessible to you as of May 14, 2007. To gain access to your course information, you will need to use the same username and password that you used for your UMD e-mail account.

This Psychology course conforms to the13 week Psychology Summer schedule. Students must complete all requirements by August 10, 2007. No exceptions.

Once you access your course, please read your syllabus. It will give you an overview of the course, its completion dates, and the requirements. Please read the syllabus carefully and plan accordingly. Your instructor or teaching assistant will be sending you a follow-up email early in the semester.
