New Career Planning Course!

Register for Strategic Career Planning Now!

Admitted and Continuing Education students can register now for CnEd 3535, Strategic Career Planning, a new course being offered fall semester.

During this three-credit course, students will work one-on-one with an instructor, learn how skills and personality correlate with the marketplace, develop career plans, and learn effective job and internship search strategies. Students have 16 weeks to complete the Individualized Instruction (INI) coursework.

Strategic Career Planning will be offered every term as an INI course. Coursework will be conducted via correspondence, with students making periodic contact with the course instructor.

Students registering for fall 2007 term will be selecting the three-credit option for the course. Students who have taken Psy 3535, Career Awareness and Development, are not eligible for credit for CnEd 3535. Students must have earned a minimum of 45 credits or instructor consent to register for the course.

Students may select one of seven sections of CnEd 3535. Instructors are all experienced career counselors who have been teaching a variation of the course for a number of years.

Strategic Career Planning is the first course under CE's new course designator, CnEd. “Continuing Education is excited to offer this new course. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to take control of their careers in college,” said Torina Stark, INI Program Coordinator. “When students put a compass on their careers early on, they can carefully select each course to fit that direction.”

Course instructor, Katherine O’Sullivan says, “As students work through the course, they find answers to the questions they come in with, they learn more about their career field and how to get started in it. Students even have a good deal of fun taking assessments and doing other course assignments.”

Beginning spring semester, students also will have the option of registering for CnEd 2535 Major and Career Exploration for two credits. This course is intended for newer students. In Major and Career Exploration, students will use theoretical models and practical experience; explore interests, skills, values, and personality; research educational and occupational possibilities; and learn how to integrate the information about themselves and the world of work to assist them in choosing a major.
