Certificate Program
Post-Baccalaureate Program
If you are interested in training in environmental education, this certificate
program is intended for you. The program is designed primarily for teachers
and interpretive naturalists, but is open to anyone with a bachelor's degree
and an interest in pursuing a career as an environmental educator.
The program emphasizes interpretive skills in the natural sciences, education
on environmental issues, and helping people recognize and solve potential
environmental problems. Three main areas of concentration are education,
social sciences, and natural sciences.
The 18 credit program is designed to be completed in one to two years.
You will take 12 credits of core courses that provide theoretical and practical
application of environmental education concepts. In addition, you'll choose
six elective credits to strengthen competency in an appropriate area of
training.

Elective Credits - 6:
Choose from approved field and classroom courses in environmental-related
topics in education, science, and social sciences
Admission to the certificate program is generally approved for students who have successfully completed a bachelor's degree and have satisfactorily completed at least 70 percent of college courses attempted.
The program is designed to interface with the master of education (M.Ed.)
degree in environmental education. Credits earned in the certificate program
may be applied to this M.Ed. program pending acceptance into the degree
program, committee approval, and no greater than nine semester credits transferring
prior to M.Ed. program acceptance.
