Drug Use and Abuse in Schools

The youth today face many challenges: one is addiction. This training will help you become aware of the effects of youth chemical use, family issues and educational problems. The workshop will focus on the difference between chemical abuse, dependence and behavioral issues and identify commonly abused chemicals.

Coping with Grief and Death

This interactive session, offering practical strategies, suggestions and interventions, will discuss children's and adolescents’ understanding of death, how they grieve and how they can be helped before and after the death of a family member, relative, friend or teacher. Additionally, this program will also review the importance of each school being proactive in its approach regarding death and crisis.

Teaching Literacy across the Curriculum

This workshop will emphasize the variety of ways that literacy – reading, writing, and speaking – can be effectively integrated in all subject areas, including its traditional ‘home,’ the language arts curriculum. We will spend time looking at research in the brain and language learning, practical advice for literacy in the curriculum, and specific lesson plans.

Addressing Bullying and Harassment in Schools: “You Have to Learn to Be Nice…”

Beyond Bells and Whistles: Teaching with Technology

Strategies to Enhance Reading Comprehension

Readers of all ages grapple with comprehension. Comprehension begins before students tackle text, occurs while students are reading, and may be enhanced after they have finished reading. Participants will become familiar with strategies designed to enhance comprehension throughout the process.

Child Abuse Reporting: What Teachers and Other Mandated Reporters Need to Know

This course is designed to help teachers understand all aspects of child abuse under Minnesota’s “Mandated Reporters Act” as well as their duties of reporting verbally and in writing. It includes tips for proper report writing and explores recent case law concerning civil liability and how to avoid it.

Early Detection of Mental Health Disorders
