The students will discuss geographic components, ethnic composition, political structuring, climate, religion, and other topics that create a unique identity for each country. In addition, the students will review their personal stories surrounding the impact that leaving their respective homelands and immersing themselves in everyday life and studies in a foreign country has had on each of them.

The bus will leave from the UMD Pay Lot at 7:30 a.m. for an exciting day of exploring Ely. The first stop is the Sigurd F. *Please note the walking paths may be difficult for some to navigate. This location is not handicapped accessible; arrangements will be made for those who need to sit out the walking tour.

Following lunch, we will tour the North American Bear Center. Watch live bears in natural forest habitat; learn how black bears use vocalizations and body language to communicate with each other and the bear keepers. Researchers Glen and Nancy Krause will guide our tour. We will end our day with a tour of the International Wolf Center, where you will be introduced to basic wolf biology and the Center’s wolves. Learn wolf language, discover adaptations of survival, and leave with a better understanding of wolf management.
