To be admitted to the undergraduate certificate, you must have completed 60 semester credits, have an overall GPA of 2.5, and have satisfactorily completed at least two-thirds of the most recent 30 semester credits attempted.
Note: If you have completed a bachelor's degree, you may choose to earn the certificate at the undergraduate level. Once admitted to the undergraduate certificate, you will not be allowed to change your undergraduate certificate credits to graduate certificate credits at a later time.
To be admitted to the graduate* certificate, you must have completed a bachelor's degree before taking your first course for the certificate, and you must have an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or a graduate GPA of 2.7. To earn the graduate certificate, you must be enrolled for graduate-level credit and pay the departmental graduate tuition rate for all courses applying to the certificate. Some of the graduate certificate credits earned may later apply toward a graduate degree, pending acceptance into a graduate program.
To be admitted to the noncredit certificate, you should have completed 30 semester credits, have an overall GPA of 2.0, have satisfactorily completed at least two-thirds of the most recent 20 semester credits attempted, and have no plans to earn a degree.

All four courses must be taken at the same level; for example, graduate
certificate students enroll for departmental graduate credit in all four
courses; undergraduate certificate students enroll for undergraduate credit;
and noncredit certificate students enroll for noncredit.
* The graduate certificate is not affiliated with the Twin Cities University of Minnesota Graduate School. Credit is earned at the UMD departmental graduate level.
