K-12 Teacher Re-licensure Noncredit Modules

Teacher and childFour non-credit modules that meet the professional development requirements of the Minnesota Teacher Re-licensure process have been developed by faculty of the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Department of Education.

  2. Reading Preparation
  3. Key Warning Signs of Early-Onset Mental Illness
  4. Using SMART BOARD Technology to Enhance Student Learning


Course Descriptions

1. Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies

Effective for renewal of professional licenses, teachers must include in their professional development activities which address positive behavioral intervention strategies. This online module will introduce the key concepts of positive behavior intervention, as well as school wide positive behavior intervention strategies. Learners will be able to determine individual priorities through self assessment tools and develop an individualized plan for the further use of PBIS.



2. Reading Preparation

Effective for renewal of professional licenses, teachers must also include in their professional development activities which evidence further reading preparation. This module satisfies the scientifically based reading instruction requirement by the Minnesota Department of Education. It covers the following areas:

 

3. Key Warning Signs of Early-Onset Mental Illness

Effective for renewal of professional licenses, teachers must also include in their professional development activities which provide an understanding of key warning signs of early-onset mental illness in children and adolescents.

 

4. Using SMART BOARD Technology to Enhance Student Learning

Effective for renewal of professional licenses that expire on June 30, 2012, and thereafter, teachers must also include in their 125 clock hours instruction or other professional development activities that integrate technology effectively with student learning to increase engagement and student achievement. This module focuses on the use of a SMART BOARD to actively engage students in learning. The module meets the standards set by Minnesota Department of Education
