Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO)

The Post Secondary Enrollment Options Act (PSEOA) allows eligible juniors and seniors in Minnesota schools to register for postsecondary course work with tuition, books, and some fees paid by the Minnesota Department of Education. PSEO students take UMD courses and earn college credit while also satisfying their high schools' graduation requirements.

The PSEO Program, a division of UMD Continuing Education Credit and Noncredit Programs, was developed to aid current high school students in their transition to University life. We work closely with high school counselors to help students select proper courses and we make referrals to other UMD departments and services when appropriate. Students who have completed the 11th grade are eligible for two semesters of PSEO. Students who have completed the12th grade are not eligible for this program.

PSEO students register for classes after all other UMD students have been registered. Open seats in any course are not guaranteed.
PSEO applicants hoping to take online courses:
PSEO students are limited to registration in one online course per term with permission from the PSEO adviser.

Eligibility Requirements for Admission:

• Juniors are required to have a cumulative 3.5 GPA to be eligible for the program.
• Seniors are required to have a cumulative 3.0 GPA to be eligible for the program.
• Applicants must be Juniors or Seniors in Minnesota Schools to participate in the PSEO program.
• All applicants are required to consult with their high school counselor about the suitability of this program before making application.
• Home schooled students are admitted on probation.
• Students who have completed the 12th grade are not eligible.
• Foreign exchange students are not eligible.
• PSEO students are not allowed to live in on-campus housing.

To Continue in the Program:

• Students must maintain at least a 2.5 university GPA to continue in the program.
• Students who receive a mid-term alert must make an appointment with the PSEO adviser.
• Students making less than a C in their coursework for a class should make an appointment with their instructor and visit the UMD Tutoring Center for assistance.
• PSEO students with 2 or more Incompletes in a semester will not be allowed to register for the next term until those courses are completed.
• PSEO students are subject to the UMD Drop/Add schedule.
• Drops after the 8th week of the term require that a petition be submitted to the UMD Registrar's office.

Application Process:

Deadlines:

• Deadline for Fall Term: June 1st (Acceptance letters go out June 8th).
• Deadline for Spring Term: December 1st (Acceptance letters go out Dec 8th).
• All application materials must be submitted by these deadlines to be eligible, no exceptions.
• Materials may be mailed, faxed, emailed, or brought to the PSEO office in Room 104 of the Darland Administration Building.
• Fall term: Students are generally notified of acceptance in June and will register for classes in mid August.
• Spring term: Students are generally notified of acceptance in December and will register in early January.

  PSEO students take Liberal Education Core courses.

  PSEO students may purchase a facilities pass from Rec Sports.

Returning PSEO students :

• You must schedule an appointment with a PSEO adviser before you can register for classes.
• You must submit your State form and Balance sheet (links above) prior to or during your advisement appointment.
• We are not able to guarantee that there will be open seats in any course.
