Financial Aid
Summer 2009

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for May and/or Summer Session financial aid at the University of Minnesota Duluth, you must be admitted to a degree or eligible-certificate-seeking program at UMD by spring semester 2009. There are no admissions to UMD undergraduate programs for May and Summer Sessions. If you are a non-degree seeking student, or if you are admitted effective fall 2009, you do not qualify for federal, state or University aid during the summer. You must also maintain satisfactory academic progress and meet the additional eligibility requirements. For further details visit the UMD Office of Financial Aid and Registrar Website at www.d.umn.edu/fareg.

Credit Requirements
Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least six credits during summer term; graduate students must be enrolled in at least three credits to be considered for summer financial aid.

How to Apply
All students requesting financial aid at UMD, including loans and college work study for Summer 2009, must complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at the Student Assistance Center, and at the Solon Campus Center Information Desk.

You will automatically be considered for all available funding when you register half time or more for course work in May Session and/or Summer Session 2009 at UMD.

When your Financial Aid is Awarded
When you are awarded financial aid, an e-mail message will be sent to your official University student e-mail account. This message will provide a link to your electronic Financial Aid Award Notice (eFAAN). You will be able to accept, reduce, or decline your awards at that time.

General Information
1. Summer financial aid options are limited. Many students use their annual aid limits during fall and spring and will need to consider borrowing an alternative loan during summer. Please plan carefully and pay close attention to all deadlines.

2. Several awards may be reduced or cancelled if you are not enrolled full-time.

3. Register early. Registration after the beginning of the session may result in reduction or cancellation of part or all of your award(s) offered.

4 . The first anticipated disbursement for summer financial aid will be approximately June 9, 2009 for students whose files and registration are complete. Federal regulations prohibit disbursement prior to this date. Please note, alternative loans cannot be disbursed prior to your first day of class unless you are participating in a study abroad program or an internship, with exception of the SELF loan, which can never be disbursed prior to the first day of class.

5. If you have not completed your registration by the census date, you may lose part or all of certain awards(s) (e.g., Pell Grant or State Grant).

6. Summer financial aid information will be sent to all students registered at UMD during spring semester. This information will also be posted in the Statesman around April 1. You can also check the Website at: www.d.umn.edu/fareg or contact the Student Assistance Center, 21 Solon Campus Center, 218/726-8000,
