The committee reviewed the CEHSP Advisor´s Manual and Advising Model. Revisions to reflect the current status of CEHSP advising were discussed and voted upon.
Kay W. brought up several strong points regarding transfer students and their lack of knowledge regarding program curriculum. General discussion was held regarding the need to better inform and work with community college counselors as to curriculum pre-requisites for CEHSP programs. Maribeth stated she would bring that request to the Associate Dean as well as relevant staff, e.g. Barb Beattie in the Admissions Office.
Mitzi D. requested that language in the Advising Manual reflect the following in reference to the policy on course repeats: Students may repeat a course in which they received a grade lower than C without departmental permission. Previously the policy had reflected a C- requirement which is inconsistent with UMD policy.
Discussion was held regarding the limited gpa information provided to program coordinators and/or faculty advisors through the Low GPA report generated from IMS Reports. The current report reflects only UMD gpa. This is somewhat misleading to program coordinators and/or faculty advisors who refer to APAS cum gpa for program requirements. Lisa Rigoni Reeves will address this concern with systems staff at UMD and Twin Cities.
The next meeting is scheduled for November 6th in Kirby 351 at 9:00am.
Maribeth Overland, CEHSP Student Affairs
