Advisor Assignment Procedures

At the end of the spring semester, Student Affairs staff will meet with department heads to review staffing plans for an upcoming year. Specifically:

• Get names of new faculty advisors for each major.
• Get names of faculty retiring or resigning; determine how their advisees will be re-assigned.
• Get names of faculty who will be on leave. Determine who will take these advisees during the time of the leave. Student Affairs will assist when contacting these students.

Advisers will be assigned in Student Affairs Office based on decisions made in discussion with department heads. Assignment can take place at these times:

• At the student's first registration at orientation.
• At the time a CEHSP student declares a first, second, or changed major.
• At the time a student is accepted into CEHSP by the change of college process.
• At the request of a student for a different advisor.

Students will have an advisor for every major declared in CEHSP, and for a concentration or specialization that requires advising expertise outside the major field. The assumption here is that students seek assistance from advisors in each major field, and a formal assignment in the second major is necessary to monitor advisee loads.Students will not receive an advisor of record for a minor field.
