Minnesota Teacher Licensure Exam (MTLE)

Go online to the MTLE Computer-Based Testing Windows and click on Review the CBT Testing Windows. The dates will appear in a pop up window.

Basic Skills Tests
What is it?
The MTLE Basic Skills Test are computer based exams that must be completed in order to become a licensed teacher. At UMD they must be passed prior to admittance into the blocks for all Teacher Education Programs.
What is covered on the exam?
Exams assess knowledge in Reading, Writing, & Mathematics
When to take:
It is recommended to complete the exams before the end of your first year
Content and Pedagogy Tests
There are 2-3 subtests in each category. All subtests MUST be passed to complete Minnesota state testing requirements.
What if I passed one subtest but not another within a test? Do I have to take both subtests?
No. You may register for and take only the subtest that you did not pass. However, you must wait at least 90 days before retaking the same subtest.

ALERT!
The Minnesota Department of Education changed testing companies as of September 1, 2010. Testing completed with ETS after Sept. 1, 2010, will not be accepted.
Testing will now be conducted by the company Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations:
PPST & Praxis II tests completed with ETS prior to Sept. 1, 2010, will be accepted by the MN Board of Teaching.
