Required Tests for Teacher Licensing

The information on this pages describes the tests and passing scores required to be licensed to teach in the State of Minnesota.

RECEIPIENT CODE: University of Minnesota Duluth-R6873. You must enter UMD's college code when you register for tests so that your scores are sent to CEHSP Student Affairs. UMD will recommend for licensure ONLY with passing scores on all tests as indicated on original score reports from the testing agency. Copies of score reports sent to students CANNOT BE USED as a basis for recommending licensure. Instructions for ordering additional score reports is at: http://www.ets.org/praxis/prxscrs.html#addlrpts.

One-time Registration Fee (Annually). Test takers will be required to pay the registration fee only once during a testing year. Beginning with the September 2007 test date, a test taker will only have to pay the registration fee the first time they register during the 2007-2008 testing year. Any subsequent registrations within the testing year will not require a registration fee.

Emergency Registration. Emergency registration will replace standby testing. Unlike standby testing, emergency registration will guarantee the test taker a seat. Test takers who must take a paper/pencil test but have missed the regular and late registration deadline dates will have an opportunity to use emergency registration up until the Friday one week prior to the test date. Emergency registration is available only by registering online, and the fee for this service will be $75.

Out-of-Session Exception Processing. The Board of Teaching has coordinated with Educational Testing Service (ETS) for authorization for some candidates (in selected fields) to register for specific tests when "more than one test" is required for any given license and there is a conflict in the sessions when the tests are offered. This exception is made for candidates who are required to take more than one test for the single field. Click here for more information.
