Laptop Requirement effective Fall 2008
Effective September 2008, CEHSP will require all entering undergraduate students to have a laptop computer, except for students who are graduating in December 2008.
Laptop Purchase
The
Minimum Laptop Specifications:
- Windows Vista (XP Pro) or Mac OS 10.x
- 1.4 GHz
processor (Centrino, Mac) - 60 GB or larger hard drive
- 1 GB RAM [2 GB recommended for Vista]
- 10/100 Ethernet network
- 802.11 g(b) Wireless network
- CD-RW/ DVD-ROM Drive
- 1 GB USB Flash Drive (to transfer files)
Recommended:
- 3-4 year Service/Maintenance plan
- Accidental Damage Plan or Insurance
Notes
- ITSS's Computer Maintenance supports computer equipment from some vendors.
Software
- UMD requires antivirus software. Note: Symantec Antivirus is available through ITSS, at no charge, to all UMD students.

- CEHSP students can get the student version of SPSS for Windows or Mac at no cost.
Financial Aid for Laptop Purchase
