Laptop Requirement for Fall 2008

Effective September 2008, CEHSP will require all entering undergraduate students to have a laptop computer, except for students who are graduating in December 2008.

Laptop Purchase

The Computer Corner, part of UMD Stores, offers several "Laptop Specials" featuring extended warranties and competitive prices. Their toll free phone number is (866) 726-8631. Students may be able to get a tax break when purchasing a laptop on campus; contact Jim Kolar for details. Laptops may by purchased from any vendor, as preferred.

Minimum Recommended Laptop Specifications:

  • Windows XP Pro/Vista or Mac OS 10.4/10.5
  • 1.4 GHz CPU (Centrino, Pentium 4 Mobile or Macintosh) [1.8+ GHz recommended for Windows Vista]
  • 60 GB hard drive
  • 1 GB RAM [2+ GB recommend for Windows Vista]
  • 10/100 Ethernet network
  • 802.11 g(b) wireless card
  • CD-R(RW) / DVD-ROM Drive
  • 1 GB Flash Drive (to transfer files)

Financial Aid for Laptop Purchase
