4. Tunnel of Oppression (Maddie Reis)
a. UCT as a collegiate standing committee. The CLA UCT posed some good
questions about how to embed the CLA UCT into the structure of the college
thus facilitating integrating their work into the college.
b. Proposed Governance Structure
Rudy Perrault announced the April Sounds of Africa music festival and described community
and student involvement. The CCT reviewed the draft Student Climate Survey and provided
comments; the CCT recommended that a student pilot survey be conducted before full
deployment. It also discussed the 2012 Student Focus Group Report (GLBT, Women, and
Disabled students). This Report and the response from the Leadership Team will be posted
online. The Student and the Faculty/Staff climate surveys will include Medicine and Pharmacy.
The Tunnel of Oppression was not discussed as no SA representative was in attendance.
CLA posed these questions: Would Goal 2 be better realized by integrating it into existing
CLA committees? How would member elections impact effectiveness, representation and
commitment? Are there other organizational models for advancing Goal 2? An update on
including equity, diversity and social justice in performance reviews was presented.
