SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, & Threats) Analysis

The strategic planning process began in December, 2010 with an analysis of the current strengths and weaknesses of the UMD campus and of the opportunities and threats to the campus in the external environment.

Goal: Five-eight page report on strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats relevant to UMD’s planning process

Process (target completion date):

• The Executive Team and Steering Committee identified possible SWOT items appropriate for the UMD campus. (12/6/10)
• A variety of stakeholder groups, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other interested groups, completed a questionnaire to rate the relevance of various strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the UMD campus. (1/19/11)
• Executive Team, Steering Committee, Faculty Fellow and Chancellor Black analyzed results of the questionnaire and wrote a report .docx). (2/11/11)
