Welcome to the University of Minnesota Duluth

At UMD, students are at the center of everything we do. Our faculty and staff establish bonds with our students, encouraging them to explore their strengths, and turn their passions into careers.

Chancellor Lendley Black

We are always striving to build upon our mission and advance our strategic priorities. These actions help us to continually grow as an inclusive and equitable community for the betterment of our campus, our community, and for the world as a whole.

Connections to the natural world and to Lake Superior inspire us to address challenges in resource management and sustainability. We offer students opportunities to assist faculty in high quality, impactful research that has global relevance.

We are committed to academic achievement, new ways of teaching and learning, and community engagement. Our faculty provide our students with a quality education that prepares them for success in an increasingly diverse world.

Each year, UMD’s Department of Career and Internship Services surveys our young alumni to learn how they are doing in the job market. I’m pleased to say that our students continue to be highly successful in finding jobs after graduation.

According to our last survey of nearly 2,000 alumni from the class of 2016-17, 96% of alumni stated that they are either employed or continuing their education. Even more impressive, 90% of those employed said that their work is related or somewhat related to their majors.

I enjoy sharing all of the great news that comes out of UMD, especially in the areas of academic excellence, world-class research and creative activities. I hope you’ll take a moment to visit the UMD News site to better understand our faculty and staff accomplishments and to see what our students are achieving. If you prefer video, explore our YouTube channel to hear students, faculty, and staff talk about their work and why it’s important to them.

I am grateful and proud to serve as UMD’s chancellor, and I hope you will join me along with UMD faculty and staff in celebrating the successes of our students as we challenge ourselves to even greater accomplishments.
