Advisement is an integral part of the chemical engineering student experience. The Department of Chemical Engineering is committed to providing quality advice to our students. Each student is assigned a chemical engineering faculty member that meets with them at least once each term before registering for classes the following term. The faculty are available to answer questions relating to the chemical engineering program at UMD, course registration, careers, and life-long-learning.
Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor often to ensure that they are on track as they progress through the requiried courses for graduation with a degree in chemical engineering. Advisors also have up-to-date information on class schedules, internships, COOP, and research opportunities available through the department. Your advisor is a great source of information for career guidance before graduation, and can answer questions on topics ranging from career opportunities to graduate school.
Faculty advisors post their office hours and meeting sign-up sheets each semester before registration. Stop by and sign-up, or contact your advisor to schedule an appointment. If you are not sure who your advisor is, check with the Department of Chemical Engineering or Swenson College of Science and Engineering office of Advising and Academic Services in 140 Engineering Building.
