ChE HomeStudent Resources Technology Requirements

Chemical engineering students need a "scientific/engineering" calculator.

Chemical Engineering students are required to use computers on campus for communicating with the department, accessing information, solving engineering problems, and documenting their course work. Specialized engineering software that is cost prohibitive for personal use is maintained for student use in our department labs, or in campus computer labs for a fee.

Personal computers are recommended, but not required. Personal computers should be capable of running the latest version of MS Office (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint). We recommend that students wait until they are on campus before purchasing software for educational use. Most educational-use software is available to students at a discounted educational rate through UMD Stores.

Please consult our campus computer store or Office of Information Technology for assistance regarding the selection of computers and compatibility with campus systems. General expectations for computers are listed by SCSE here.
