Swenson Family Foundation Scholarships

James R. (Jim) Swenson graduated from UMD in 1959, with a BA in chemistry. Swenson went on to found Details, Inc., a prolific, high-technology, printed circuit shop, which he sold a few years ago. He now wishes to give back to future science students at his alma mater, a place where he says he received much individual attention, outstanding career counseling, and "a real feel for industry and research."

Selection Criteria:

Outstanding entering freshmen student; chemistry or biochemistry and molecular biology major; financial need; U.S. citizen; eligible for MN in-state tuition

Application/selection process:

Students apply during the spring of their senior year of high school. Applicants submit an application form, transcript, ACS scores and letters of recommendation.

Award winners receive:

Scholarship; Certificate




CRC Freshman Chemistry Award

Selection Criteria:

Outstanding academic achievement in General Chemistry sequences 1151-1152 and 1161-1162


Application/selection process:

General chemistry instructors select top students at the end of Spring Semester.
