Department of Civil Engineering

Swenson College of Science and Engineering

The UMD Civil Engineering program, to be started in Fall 2008, has been developed to address the regional as well as national needs for qualified civil engineers, who are essential for planning, design, construction, maintenance, operations and management of the critical infrastructure system in our society, such as roads, bridges, airports, waste water treatment systems, etc.

The new Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) program will focus on the education, training and advanced research on the following areas in civil engineering:

  •  Structural Engineering
  •  Water Resources Engineering
  •  Transportation Engineering
  •  Geotechnical/Mining Engineering

The construction of the new Civil Engineering building will start in Spring 2008 and completed in early 2010.    The new building, which will be located at the eastern end of the UMD campus, will include multi-purpose classrooms,  state-of-the-art laboratories, and research facilities.
