UMD Department of Civil Engineering

Welcome

Welcome to the home of UMD's Civil Engineering Department! This is an exciting time for our department — founded in 2008, we had our first graduating class in 2012. In 2010, we moved into the new LEED-certified Swenson Civil Engineering Building. Find out more about our facilities.

Congratulations Class of 2012 — First Graduating Class from the UMD Civil Engineering Program!

The Department of Civil Eingeering graduated its first class of 33 individuals. In the video to the left, Dave Nadeau, who was part of that graduating class, talks about his experiences in the program. A third of the graduates, including Nadeau, already have jobs lined up in their field.

UMD'S Civil Engineering program offers four areas of speciality: Geotechnical, Structures, Transportation, or Water Resources. In addition, the Department now offers a Master of Science in civil engineering intended for students pursuing a research emphasis and seeking in-depth knowledge in an area within civil engineering.
